Discord Inc. - Instant messaging - 133,7 mb.

If you’re a gamer, you’ve probably heard of Discord, the popular chat platform that allows you to connect with other gamers and join communities centered around your favorite games. However, let me tell you that Discord is much more than just a gaming app.

In this post, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about Discord, how to use it, and why (in my personal opinion) you should give it a try.

What is Discord?

Discord is a free application that combines the functions of a chat app, a voice and video calling app, and a social networking platform. You can use Discord to chat with your friends, join servers dedicated to specific topics or games, and create your own servers and channels to host your own communities. Discord is available for Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, and web browsers.

What sets Discord apart from other chat apps?

Initially, Discord was designed with gamers in mind, as there was a need within this community, but over time, thanks to its versatility, people discovered that it can actually be used by anyone who wants to communicate with like-minded individuals. Here are some features that make Discord stand out:

  • Servers and Channels: Discord allows you to create or join servers, which are like large groups of people who share a common interest. Each server can have multiple channels, which are like subgroups within the server. Channels can be text or voice, depending on their purpose. For example, you can have a text channel for general chat, a voice channel for gaming sessions, and another text channel for sharing memes.
  • Bots and Integrations: Discord supports bots, which are automated programs that can perform various tasks or add functionality to your server. For example, you can use bots to play music, moderate the chat, send notifications, or interact with other apps and services. You can find and add bots from the official Discord bot list or other online sources.
  • Roles and Permissions: Discord allows you to assign roles to members of your server, which are like labels that grant certain privileges or restrictions. For example, you can have roles for administrators, moderators, regular members, guests, etc. You can also customize permissions for each role, channel, and member, giving you full control over who can do what in your server.

  • Customization: Discord lets you customize your server and profile to fit your preferences and style. You can change the server’s name, icon, color, and description. You can also change your username, avatar, status, and bio in your profile. You can use emojis, stickers, GIFs, and custom commands to express yourself in chat.
  • Nitro and Boosts: Discord offers a premium subscription service called Nitro, which gives you access to extra features and advantages such as animated avatars, custom tags, higher quality streams and video calls, more file upload space, global access to Nitro emotes, and much more. Nitro also allows you to boost servers, giving them additional benefits like higher audio quality, more emoji slots, custom banners and invites, enhanced server discovery, and more.

What Else Can the Discord App Do?

Discord is more than just a chat app. It’s a platform where you can meet new people, make friends, join communities, attend or host workshops, and more. Whether you’re a gamer or not, Discord can be a very interesting app for all these reasons. You can find servers for almost any topic or hobby you can think of: music, movies, books, sports, art, etc.

Discord is also a great collaboration and productivity tool. You can use it to work on projects with your teammates or classmates, organize online events or meetings, stream or watch live content, and much more. All of this makes it compete with specialized apps in its sector like Zoom.

Discord is constantly evolving and improving thanks to user feedback and suggestions. You can also contribute to the development of Discord by joining the official Discord Testers server or supporting the app financially through Nitro or Boosts.
